About Shotokan Karate

The Shotokan Karate style which has been practiced in Nigeria since 90s is a martial weaponless art sport and the most widely practiced karate style instituted by the traditional Japanese master Gichin Funakoshi who is considered the father of modern karate on the primary field of kicking, punching, sticking and blocking with even a more voluminous aspect to the serious karate training, which involves character development as an avenue for the realization of higher potentials which expands the individuals mental and physical abilities.

The Nigerian practised art sports had since its inauguration in the country in 1992 been absolutely answerable to the federal government of Nigeria (through the Nigerian ministry of sports) for the advancement and promotion of karate sport has been a member of the Karate Federation of Nigeria

The Nigeria Association of Shotokan karate (NASK) has undoubtedly proven to have a bright aspiration of karate greatness unhampered by fear or doubt with the human resources to ensure its accomplishment.

The Asai Shotokan karate which is a kind of Shotokan karate is believed to be an extensive style of the Asai Ryu karate which is based on the Funakoshi / Nakayama JKA style, created by Master Tetsuhiko Asai who merged the long distance Shotokan method with the White Crane Kung Fu short distance method using the Kobudo (Okinawan Weapon).

Asai Shotokan karate which is believed to be the next bujutsu and budo karate generation has a non-political international body Asai Shotokan Association international (ASSI) which welcomes and promotes all the karate-ka and dojos who wishes to practice the Shotokan advanced techniques, ASSI membership is open to all karate origination practitioners irrespective of the organization and styles; Nigeria Asai Shotokan Karateka’s has been a member of this organization since its introduction in Nigeria.

 

The World Karate Shotokan Karate-Do Federation Nigeria

On the first day of June 1990, the World Karate Shotokan Karate-Do Federation Japan was established with Takeashi Kamaiyanagi “late” as the first president and Hitoshi Kasuya Sensei as the Chief Instructor. 

Since its Nigeria inauguration in 2014, the World Karate Shotokan Karate-Do Federation Nigeria which is affiliated to the World Karate Shotokan Karate-Do Federation Japan has been abiding with the WSKF rules of establishment and declarations in fostering the spirit of karate-do and true art form in the country.

The Non-profit making federation is established with the aim of actively developing the personal character of its members in a karate-do benefiting manner using the constituted guide of WSKF Japan established originally in the 90s.

The World Karate Shotokan Karate-Do Federation (WSKF) Nigeria which was formed under the direction of the Nigerian Chief Instructor Bamgboye Bob Sensei with the approval of Hitoshi Kasuya Sensei “the World Chief Instructor” has proven to be dynamically unique by conducting and spreading the Karate dojos trainings to the grassroots among individuals, dojos, groups and organizations in Nigeria.

The Federation which conducts annual courses and grading’s all over Nigeria motivates Karate-Do members to train with (Sensei) instructors of other organizations and association in the true spirit of Karate and to welcome new dojos, individuals, groups, organizations and students to train and join the WSKF Clubs (dojo).

The Nigerian Association for Shotokan karate (NASK) has been a member of the Karate Federation of Nigeria since their inauguration in 1992 and is absolutely answerable to the federal government of Nigeria (through the Nigerian ministry of sports) for the advancement of karate sport in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Association of Shotokan karate (NASK) is indirectly accountable (through the maintenance and hosting of Sensei Kanazawa in 1984) for the advanced expansion and awareness of karate in Nigeria and is still indebted to securing its milestone achievement and development.
